The ritual year begins with Samhain (October 31). For the Celts and the Germans, the year began with the dark half, just as the day began with nightfall. The Celts called the New Year's Eve Samhain. At this time of the year, contact with the other world and the spirits of deceased ancestors is easier than usual.
